Siding

The skin that protects everything behind it.

Siding is your home’s first line of defense against Cape Cod weather — and the single biggest change you can make to its curb appeal.

The basics

What is siding?

Siding is the exterior cladding on your home’s walls — the shingles, boards or panels you see from the street. Its job is two-fold: protect the structure from rain, wind, salt air and pests, and define the entire look of your home.

Behind it sits a weather-resistant barrier and insulation. When siding fails — cracks, rot, peeling, drafts — moisture gets in and damage spreads. Good siding, installed correctly, keeps your home dry, efficient and beautiful for decades.

Why it matters

Signs it’s time for new siding.

  • Cracks, warping or rot — especially on the weather-facing sides of the house.
  • Rising energy bills — failing siding and insulation let heat escape.
  • Peeling paint or fading that no longer holds up to the Cape’s sun and salt.
  • You want a fresh look — nothing transforms a home faster than new siding.
Your options

Three great ways to clad your home.

Cedar shingle

The quintessential Cape Cod look. Natural, timeless and able to weather to that classic silver-grey. A true New England classic.

Vinyl

Affordable, durable and virtually maintenance-free. Modern vinyl comes in rich colors and convincing wood-grain textures.

Fiber-cement

Premium, ultra-durable and fire- and rot-resistant. The look of painted wood with exceptional longevity.

Good to know

Siding questions, answered.

How long does siding last?

It depends on the material and exposure. Quality vinyl and fiber-cement can last 25–50 years, while cedar lasts decades with care. We’ll recommend what fits your home and budget.

Can you replace just part of my siding?

Yes. For localized damage we can repair or replace a section. If the siding is widely worn, a full re-side is usually the better long-term value — we’ll give you the honest call.

Will new siding make my home more efficient?

It can. Paired with a fresh weather barrier and insulation, new siding helps seal drafts and can reduce heating and cooling costs.
